Discrimination includes:
Race: includes verbal slurs or derogatory
comments, physical interference with an employee's working conditions, demeaning
drawings and the like, and creating a racially hostile environment. Also,
outright discrimination in hiring, firing, promoting, demoting and disciplining
because of race may be actionable. Religion: includes discriminating against
employees because of religious creed, beliefs and practices or the lack of such
beliefs. It also includes failing to reasonably accommodate such beliefs and
practices.
Sex and Pregnancy: includes the disparate
treatment of woman over men, pregnancy discrimination, and discrimination for
pregnancy leave. See also section on Sexual Harassment.
National Origin: an employee who is fired, demoted, disciplined or
otherwise treated unfavorably based upon where they were born may have the right
to claim discrimination.
Disabilities: includes any employee who is subject to adverse action
by an employer because of a physical disability, mental disability, or medical
condition. It also includes an employer failing to reasonably accommodate a
disability or medical condition.
